John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress is a classic story that I have been using to teach my grandchildren. The key character, Christian, is on a quest to the Celestial City who learns many things along the way and the most important to me is that the journey is not an easy one. He has to endure difficulty, deception and distress along the way but in the end it is worth it.
This book is an allegory for not just Christians but for anyone who has a goal in mind and has found achieving it difficult, so difficult in fact that it seems that it is not worth the trouble. It is just easier to turn back, to give up.
Nonetheless, like Christian in his journey, one who sets out on a personal journey of growth, positive change in every aspect of his/her life-spiritually, financially, emotionally and psychologically- will not find the trip easy. That does not mean it is not worth stretching every fiber of one’s being to get to the goal. The fact that the journey is hard is all the more reason not to give up because it is worth it. You are worth it. Live your life to the fullest today and always!
