Setting clear boundaries for yourself is at the center of fulfilling your passion. Knowing how, with whom and when to set these boundaries is so important. Understanding this is really about creating good relationships: relationships with those closest to you like your spouse, your children, parents and close friends as well as relationships within the work place, or in your community. Setting clear boundaries for yourself teaches others that you care about what is important to you and that they should as well. It is a very loving thing to do.
Loving? Well, think about how Christ showed us how to interact with each other. “He was highly social yet He possessed a reserve that discouraged any familiarity….” (White, CT,262) He remained true to His passion for souls and lived His stated purpose daily while also preserving His integrity even in the midst of great crowds and busy-ness all around Him. He is our example. We can still love those dear to us and be helpful to others without compromising the boundaries that are most important to us: our time with God, our time to create and our time to be still. Practicing these boundary setting actions gets us to Step Four: Stay Consistent with Number One.
